Competition Queries

Which height is which in Eventing?
As a rough guide, Pony Club level 3 is called Novice and is equivalent to Unaffiliated 'Intro' competions, which is equivalent to British Eventing 90cm ie BE90. Pony Club level 4 is called Intermediate and is equivalent to unaffiliated 'pre-novice' or BE 100. PC level 5 is call Open and is equivalent to unaffiliated or BE 'Novice' classes. Confusing or what ! They all have different rules about when you're allowed to drop into water and width of fences etc so you would need to look at the individual rule books for more information

Are you selected for teams?
You are selected for the area teams, which happen once a year in the summer. There are dressage, show jumping, tetrathlon, eventing and quiz teams. The teams are selected by the trainers on a variety of criteria. Many people wait to be selected, this will not happen. There are too many members for us to know what you are doing. So to succeed ing getting selected for the areas you must be out competing as an individual first, and send your results to the team manager so we know what you are doing. Team training is also vital, and you need to attend some sessions to be considered. All those details are on our web site. For other pony club events, for example show jumping at Bisley, we try to involve as many people as possible, and all who want to compete should be able to. Children will be selected and put into teams. This can only be done if the team manager knows you have entered and been accepted for that competition. For some, the ODE at Bisley it is tough to get a place. The form is you enter and then e-mail the manager to let them know you are going, what class/height/test etc you are doing. So the responsibility is yours. If you find a pony club event for teams send the schedule out via the Yahoo group and we should be able to get teams out. Woodland wants to encourage as many riders to get out and have fun, alot of info about the different teams is on our web site.

What is team uniform?
For dressage, show jumping and these phases in eventing, you wear, beige jods, boots hacking jacket, white shirt , gloves, hat with blue/ black or brown silk and pony club tie. For the show jumping you may want to add a body protector and half chaps. For hunter trials, and the cross country phase beige jods, boots, chaps, along sleeved bottle green top, body protector, medical armband, hat and green silk. Rules on bits, whips, numnas etc are in the pony club rule books. They are £2.00 each from the pony club web site and are vital reading for all out competing. All your questions will be answered.
